Deep South Island Adventure

Deep South Island Adventure

The words Deep South and Island Adventure seem like an odd match, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Recently, one of our interns had the pleasure of visiting Ship Island, Mississippi and determined it is a great destination to share a day with friends while playing SeaTurtle Sports’ games.

So how does one travel to Ship Island?  The only method of transportation is by boat, nicely limiting the competition for prime beach real estate.  There are two ferries to the island, both of which offer pick up and drop off at predetermined times from Gulfport, Mississippi. Only those with private boats can encroach on your space on the island, making Ship Island perfect for groups of friends to come and mark their own turf for all day beach game play.

With cleaner water than neighboring beaches and abundance of natural wild life to interact with, the island has very few manmade structures.  There are, however, beach chairs and umbrellas for rent, a snack bar, and Fort Massachusetts if you are interested in history.  We recommend packing your favorite beach towels, snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and of course at least one of our beach games.

All in all, Ship Island is the perfect mini getaway without having to leave the country.  The ferry ride takes about an hour each way. Word to the wise, bring lots of water and stay hydrated on this tropical island!  For more information on Ship Island, take a look at their website: http://www.msshipisland.com/
